This Week’s Comics – November 11th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Superman: American Alien #1: Operation “Let’s show people that Superman is still cool” continues with this seven-part mini-series. Each issue will be a separate story detailing a different part in Clark’s life. It will likely be terrible, but DC is trying SO hard, you guys.

All-New [Fill in the Blank] #1: There are three new Marvel books with the All-New imprint on them this week, with the launch title Avengers being the biggest. Me, though, I’m stoked about seeing X-23 embrace her inner Wolverine.

Limbo #1: A six-parter from Image title that crosses 50’s pulp noir with 80’s vibes. The art looks fantastic and I get a very Ugly Americans vibe from the setting. Really, anything new and different from Image stays in my to-read list.

This Week’s Comics – November 4th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

James Bond #1: Released right before Spectre hits the theaters, this Dynamite title is most likely a cash crab attempt, so stay leery. BUT! BUT! Warren Ellis is writing this. Whore 007 out all you want, but all is forgiven once you put a quality writer on it. The series promises a return to the narratives of the book series.

Klaus #1: Synopsis – Grant Morrison writes a totally barbaric version of Saint Nick that is decisively less jolly than usual. I can’t help but get a Simpson‘s “Bonestorm” vibe from this, so I’ll just leave this here…

Uncanny X-Men #600: Brian Michael Bendis’ swan song is here. I’m sad, yet excited to read this last issue. It’s been such an enthralling series so far that even if Marvel has moved on, I’m gonna go down with the ship on Uncanny.

More All-New All-Different Books Debut: Aside from Mavel annoyingly putting out books every two weeks (I got sh*t to do, Marvel!), I’m anxious to get my hands on all the new books coming out this week, most notably: Howard the DuckDeadpool, and Extraordinary X-Men.

This Week’s Comics – October 28th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #51: If you like TMNT, this is the perfect jumping on point. A crazy 50-issue mega arc just wrapped up and the Turtles are bound for Japan to try to restore honor to The Foot. This new adventure is unlike any direction I’ve ever seen the story take, and I’m excited to see where it goes from here.

Justice League: The Darkseid Wars – Batman #1: So, Batman is a God. He flies around in a chair that is basically the Wikipedia of the universe and makes snarky comments about how smart he is. After the latest Justice League, he’s headed back to Gotham, presumably to murder all the bad guys.

Black Magick: If you’ve been reading any Star Wars stuff leading up to Ep 7, then Greg Rucka is your best friend. This new Image title is about, well, black magic. It harkens a bit of Constantine, and the art by Nicola Scott looks to really bring the supernatural element to life.

This Week’s Comics – October 21st, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Fistful of Blood #1: Kevin Eastman kicks off his IDW-exclusive deal with the rerelease of this book from 2003. This will be more akin to his early Heavy Metal days – not very turtle-like at all. Zombies, vampires, and a girl with big books – it’s time for 80s comic book fans to crawl back out of the gutters again!

Back to the Future #1: After a quiet few weeks, IDW is really outdoing themselves this week, with Back to the Future leading the way. What better way to celebrate a milestone date in the franchise than by pimping it out? I’m hopeful that IDW will be able to capture the magic since BTTF is a concept that translates well to comic book form.

Hawkeye by Matt Fraction and David Aja Omnibus: All 22 issues of one of Marvel’s best series of the last five years can be yours, including the holiday pet superhero issue! Really though, this is one of the funnest books I’ve read in a while, one that didn’t seem to get caught up in all the reboot/relaunch frenzy. They actually rebooted the book without Fraction and Aja before their Hawkeye series was complete. Classy move, Marvel.

This Week’s Comics – October 14th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

I Hate Fairyland #1: You’ve all seen Skottie Young’s cute Little Marvel art, right? And read his adorable Oz adaptions? Well, this is going to be closer to Oz the prison show than The Wizard of Oz. Young is the latest to cross over into the creator-owned Image, and will murder cute things in this new book.

More All-New All-Different #1s: More Marvel, right in your face! This week, I’ll be checking out Spider-Gwen and Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s a new Star-Lord in town.

Chewbacca #1: DC continues to lose. Sorry Lois and Clark #1, you can’t mess with the Wookie. I’m curious if Marvel will take the Groot route and choose to let Han tell Chewie’s story vicariously, or if it’ll be a mostly silent story.

This Week’s Comics – October 7th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

All-New All-Different Marvel: The new relaunch from Marvel is finally being realized. Many of the titles out this week are new #1’s, and they all look pretty interesting. The “biggest” title (if we’re going by marketing) is Invincible Iron Man, but the Point One issue should give fans a broad understanding of what is going on in the Marvel U.

TMNT #50: Holy crapballs! I can’t believe we’re at issue #50 of this reboot. It’s made me very nostalgic, and I will likely lock myself in a dark room as I read this by candlelight. Good news, bad news… Good news: This will be a distinguished starting point for new fans to start reading #51. Bad news: I have no idea what that means for the current saga. Are they setting off a complete relaunch in story? A do over? Whatever it is, I’m in for the long haul!

Image finally gets back on track: After a few weeks of quiet horizons, Image is melting people’s faces back again with several awesome new titles. Codename Baboushka: The Conclave of Death (what if the sexy Russian Bond girl was the hero), Paper Girls (written by Brian K Freaking Vaughan), and Saints (a Dexter-style murder mystery book) all debut. Also, Hush favorites NailbiterSouthern Bastards, and Copperhead return.

This Week’s Comics – September 30th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

From Under Mountains #1: Fantasy, folk-lore and monsters? Count me in! This could be the industry’s answer to the end of Fables. Written by the creator of 8House: Arclight and newcomer Claire Gibson, this should be a refreshing reentry to fantasy for me.

Captain America: White #2: Dang, we get treated to TWO issues of the mythical Captain America: White in one month. Christmas has come early. If you didn’t already know, the premiere of this book garnered an A-freakin’ plus from me, so of course you should read the second installment.

DC’s Annuals: Just kidding. Stay away from these. They probably all suck. Read Justice League or Sandman:Overture instead. In general, DC kinda sucks right now.

This Week’s Comics – September 16th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Tokyo Ghost #1: Another Rick Remender Image book to whet the appetite of fans who love good content. This time, it’s Sean Murphy on art duties. The book takes place in Los Angeles, and there are no apparent ghosts, so who knows what other kind of crazy crap will take place?

Captain America: White #1: It’s hard to believe that this book is even happening. Completing the “color” series, the long-awaited Captain America: White has been “in the works” for so long that even when it had a release date, it snuck up on me. Tim Sale and Jeff Loeb are one of the best creative teams in comic book history.

Voltron: From the Ashes #1: I’ll be honest, I don’t know a whole bunch about Voltron, but I know that this reboot might not suck. It’s scripted by vetted writer Cullen Bunn and should bring some nostalgia to long-time fans of the show. I just want an excuse not to watch the entire original series.

This Week’s Comics – September 9th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Batman #44: Mr. Bloom was revealed in the last issue, and he is one frightening S.O.B. He’s more in-line with the type of monsters Greg Capullo used to draw on Spawn, so I hope their are more mind-bending panels to come.

Head Lopper #1: Indy fans rejoice, as the comic book that has taken cons by storm is finally available via Image Comics. It’s about a barbarian in the post apocalyptic world that fights all sorts of monsters with the assistance of a severed witch’s head. What’s not to love?

Journey to Star Wars The Force Awakens Shattered Empire #1: For all you Star Wars fans out there who have not read the novels or older graphic novels, this is your opportunity to get a little backstory for what has been happening in the ‘verse leading up to the movie.
