As if someone was asking for it, Paramount/Hasbro has announced Transformers 5 will be happening in 2017. The announcement came from the Hasbro 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference Call of all places. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner confirmed that they have been building a writing team, being spearheaded by Akiva Goldman. Goldman broke into Hollywood with such classics as Batman Forever, Batman & Robin and Lost In Space. Now I know that those are some of the worst credentials a writer could have but he did better later in his career by penning films such as Cinderella Man, I, Robot, A Beautiful Mind, I am Legend. There are others I could list but you don’t have all day. Expect another Walberg infused Transfomers movie in 2017. Source: Transformers World
Horror superstar Wes Craven is developing his 1991 film People Under the Stairs into a TV series for Syfy. The new show is being described as a “contemporary Downton Abbey meets Amityville Horror.” That sounds like fun. For fun here is the trailer for the original 1991 film. Source: THR
ABC confirmed the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D spinoff will be bringing back Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). The spinoff is being created by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffery Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski. Now ABC hasn’t officially greenlit the project yet and probably won’t do so until a script is finished. If ABC does sign off on this then Zbyszewski is expected to be the show runner. If given the ok it is planned that the show will run concurrently with Agents. Source: Deadline
Wonder Woman is looking for her leading man. Recently the Variety reporter Justin Kroll reported in his Meet the Movie Press podcast that Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) were tested to play Steve Trevor for the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. They both have family ties to The Avengers by the way. The role was also offered to Scott Eastwood (Fury) but he chose a role in the new Suicide Squad movie instead. Kroll says to not expect either Skarsgard or Hemsworth to land the role though. “Steve Trevor is still open, and they are not going back to those guys for testing now that they have a new director” The Steve search continues. Ubisoft has released a trailer for its next Assassin’s Creed installment, Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles China. This new game is a 2.5D adventure that is for download only. For those who don’t know, and I didn’t, Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles is a new small series of games that tell individual stories from around the world, the first of course being in China. The next two will be in India and Russia. Each game will also take place during a different time period. Russia looks like it’s the most modern game to date. In Chronicles China, you’ll play as Shao Jun, one of the few female leads in an Assassin’s Creed game.
With the release of Mortal Kombat X there are murders left and right. But what about those klassic finishing moves we grew to know and love? Well it looks like there will be two “Klassic Fatalities DLC” packs coming out on Steam. This digging comes from the Steam Database information for Mortal Kombat X. Perhaps we’ll soon see Scorpion rip of his own face and breathe fire all over someone. A boy can dream. Source: Destructoid
The classic children’s story The Little Prince will debut it’s movie on July 29th in France. While the U.S. date is still unconfirmed, fans of the novella were given a taste with this trailer, the second to air.
With the changing of the guard of studio chief’s over at Sony Pictures there has been a surprising change in the scale of the new all-female Ghostbusters movie. Tom Rothman, newly anointed studio chief of Sony Pictures, has decided to cut a little out of the movie’s budget. Roth has removed $15 million dollars from the film. Granted this is a relatively small amount, considering the movie’s original budget was $169 million. The movie’s director and writer Paul Fieg cut the screenplay down to do his best to meet the $150 million target proposed by Rothman. I can’t imagine this will have a major effect on the quality of the film, which is basically guaranteed to be hilarious. Source: THR
When Hayao Miyazaki decided to leave Studio Ghibli, it was a sad day for fans of his film and of anime in general. His leaving didn’t affect only his fans apparently. Studio Ghibli may also forever remain changed by his absence. The only full length feature film left on the Studio Ghibli docket is When Marnie Was There, which released in 2014 in Japan and will be hitting US theaters on May 22nd. When Miyazaki left the company last year, the studio started to slowly dismantle their projects. This may be the last film we see from the forever loved Studio Ghibli. God I hope not. Source: A.V.
