This Week’s Comics – June 3rd, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Justice League #41: Now that Convergence is finally over (although the effects linger like a Sausage Egg McMuffin before a job interview), we can get back to some meaningful storylines in the books. Of all the continuing DC books this week, Justice League has got to be my most anticipated book of the week. This issue marks the beginning of The Darkseid Wars, where Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor duke it out. Everybody loses. Except for us.

TMNT: Mutanimals #4: This short series has been so intriguing, it makes me wish it was its own story. I know the team will be incorporated into the main TMNT book, but I love that Monda Gecko and Mutagen Man can just kick back and have a deep conversation. Hob is a scoundrel, sure, but he’s also a pretty good leader. I guess my point is, this book has its own solid cast with their own qualities, and Mutanimals could stand alone as it’s own book. All we can do is enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX #1: A complete overhaul of the Marvel Universe wouldn’t be complete without Scottie Young’s aww-inspiring (not awe, aww) Little Marvel U. This particular issue is going to be all-out war between the cutesy-wutesy Avengers and the tiny-winy X-Men. It will be totes adorbs and you wouldn’t want to miss it for the world, as this is going to be a book you can revisit through the years and still get the same kick out of.

TV: Most of the other good shows are over, so it’s time to focus on Game of Thrones… as if you needed to be told.

Netflix: Nothing really looks that great, but the Netflix-exclusive Hot Girls Wanted is a documentary bout 18-19 year old porn stars and is produced by Rashida Jones.
Movies: If it were me, I would go see Tomorrowland again, but San Andreas starring the Rock isn’t a poor choice, either.

This Week’s Comics – May 27th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Old Man Logan #1: Brian Michael Bendis heads this mini-series about a dystopian future where all the heroes but Logan have been wiped out by villains. It’s basically like Mad Max with Wolverine playing the part of Max. The original run 2009 run by Mark Millar was one of the most creative and captivatin reads in recent memory, so as long as this little addition is in the same spirit, it’s going to be fun. Marvel is really doing these “reboots” justice, by veering off the path of the original content.

Fight Club 2 #1: The follow up to the 1996 book (and movie, duh) is finally here. Fight Club 2 surrounds the recover – and inevitable relapse of Tyler Durden. He’s trying to keep it together for his wife and kid, but she is bored out of her mind dealing with the sedated shell of a man Tyler has become. What’s bad for him is insanely entertaining for us, so bring on the next evolution of Fight Club!

Material #1: This new Image book takes a break from sci-fi, fantasy and horror to focus on real issues. The format of the book will be 9-panel pages, something seldom found in modern comic books anymore. The book will consist of multiple personable stories that will start “in America and spread everywhere.” Comic books have become such a source of inter-personal bonding, and Material looks to capitalize on that common bond.

The Geekly Forecast: May 18th – May 24th, 2015

The Geekly Forecast is a weekly preview of all the neat stuff coming to screens, stores, and living rooms near you!

Recommendations:
TV: Say goodbye to Season 1 of The Flash, one of the best new shows on TV. A phenomenal 10th season of Supernatural also closes out.
Music: Hip-Hop heads will consider Murs‘ Have a Nice Life a must-buy, and former Lupe collaborator Gemstones‘ Blind Elephant seems great, too.
Netflix: I’ve been waiting for The Boxtrolls to come out on Netflix for a while, but Welcome to the Punch starring James McAvoy and Marc Strong is more up my alley.
Movies: You have to go see Tomorrowland. If you have a taste for horror, check out the Poltergeist remake. If you choose to see Human Centipede 3, go straight to jail. Do not pass go; do not collect $200.
DVD: Season 3 of Orange is the New Black streams starting June 12th. You can catch all the episodes on Netflix, but collectors still should pick up Season 2 on DVD this week.

Movies: There are some good choices out there with Pitch Perfect 2 and Good Kill out, but we’re heading to see Mad Max: Fury Road first.

The Geekly Forecast: Apr 27th – May 3rd, 2015

The Geekly Forecast is a weekly preview of all the neat stuff coming to screens, stores, and living rooms near you!

Recommendations:
TV: Oliver is officially heir to the Demon, and it’s kinda sexy. So yeah, watch Arrow
Music: Typically I pick whatever will be popular or something really weird. If you want popular, go with Raekwon’s F.I.L.A. or Zac Brown Band’s Jekyll + Hyde. Personally, I am really liking the sound of Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld Never Were The Way She Was. It is so pretty!
Netflix: I may or may not be joking, but Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde are both on Netflix on Friday, and I *might* skip Avengers 2 for this fest.
Movies: Just kidding! GIVE ME ALL THE AVENGERS 2!!!!!!!!!! ALL WEEKEND!!!!!!! CAPS LOCK INTENDED!!!!!!!
DVD: For a feel good kids movie Paddington is the best choice. For an intense rush with some laughs try Inherent Vice. But if you are 90’s kid, there is no question that Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of is the only DVD to purchase this week.
