Spectre’ Gets a Trailer and it Obviously Looks Amazing

The Daniel Craig set of Bond films just might be my favorite.

I was blown away with Skyfall. Going into the spy’s past is a good breakaway from the spy projects at hand. While those are always fun, finding out where our hero comes from is just as intriguing.

Enter Spectre. An organization that is very powerful and has one thing in common: James Bond. He must deal with his past work and possible wrong doings to get through the present. Plus: Girls, Guns, and Cars!

Oh, and my personal favorite thing about this film… Christoph Waltz will be playing Bond’s antagonist, Franz Oberhauser. It has been a while since audiences have had the pleasure of hating a Christoph Waltz’ character. I personally love to hate him.

Spectre is making its first appearance in a Bond film since 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever. This film is not a direct adaptation of any of Ian Fleming’s books in particular, but is taking a bit from the short story Octopussy from Octopussy and The Living Daylights. A character named Hannes Oberhauser is a background character in a story about WWII told from the viewpoint of villain Major Dexter Smythe.

Spectre will be in theaters November 6th.

Sony to Make Emoji Movie… For Some Reason

It seems like the film industry will do just about anything to make a quick buck these days. Whether it be countless, terrible sequels or capitalizing on fan culture, money making movies are in abundance. Why? Because it’s easy. You don’t have to do any math to figure out that every little kid in the world is going to want to see a bunch of yellow tic-tacs bouncing around the screen after the success of Despicable Me. Everyone loves those little Minions! So much so that the industry doesn’t have to worry about it selling. It seems the same mindset is fueling Sony’s latest soon-to-be project.

Emoji: The Movie. After a heated bidding war between Sony, Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures over the rights for the film (seriously? People were bidding on this sh*t?) Sony will be putting our image keyboard on the big screen. How much did the deal go for? Six figures. Unbelievable.

This doesn’t seem like it will be a hard film to make. You’re got the concept art ready to go. Let’s hope they don’t make this a live action film. I don’t think I could stomach that.

While this film seems like an incredibly stupid and desperate attempt to make money, I felt that way about The Lego Movie before I actually saw it and it’s one of my favorite films. Who knows. Maybe they’ll pull this off.

“Selma” Director Ava Duvernay Passes on Marvel’s “Black Panther”

While fans thought that Selma director Ava Duvernay would be signing onboard for Marvel’s “Black Panther,” it turns out that’s not exactly the case. Duvernay has turned down the offer and for what is a pretty good reason.

At the recent blogger confer “BlogHer,” Duvernay discussed why she had passed on the project. She started with how the negotiations had been going. She wanted to make sure the people involved were ones she could “go to bed with” as she put it. Collaborating is always a kind of marriage, so she had to be certain that she could do that for three years. “It’d be three years of not doing other things that are important to me. So it was a question of, is this important enough for me to do?” she said.

Duvernay said she was very close to signing the contract, as she was excited about the cultural opportunities that came with it. A superhero movie with a black lead is a huge deal when it comes to the film industry and the reach the movie might have given her was what had initially drawn her to the project. “At one point, the answer was yes because I thought there was value in putting that kind of imagery into the culture in a worldwide, huge way, in a certain way: excitement, action, fun, all those things, and yet still be focused on a black man as a hero — that would be pretty revolutionary. These Marvel films go everywhere from Shanghai to Uganda, and nothing that I probably will make will reach that many people, so I found value in that. That’s how the conversations continued, because that’s what I was interested in. But everyone’s interested in different things.”

In the end, Duvernay decided to pass on the project due to different views on how the movie would fit into the overarching universe Marvel prides itself on.

“What my name is on means something to me — these are my children,” she said about her work. “This is my art. This is what will live on after I’m gone. So it’s important to me that that be true to who I was in this moment. And if there’s too much compromise, it really wasn’t going to be an Ava DuVernay film.”

While it’s sad to see such an amazing director pass up on a film like this, you have to admire her integrity. She’s not about to sell out on something she doesn’t believe in, a quality that seems to be lacking in the film industry lately.

Black Panther will feature Starry Chadwick Boseman in the title role and is expected to premiere July 6, 2018.

Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC to Team Up for Zombie Western!

Oh how the mighty have fallen, and then hit rock bottom. Back in the late 90’s, when boy bands ruled the Earth, I don’t think any of us could have predicted that the Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC would ever team up. They were arch enemies! But time makes fools of us all, and members of the two bands will be teaming up for a new Asylum movie calledDead 7, written by none other than Nick Carter (he was the youngest in BSB, and “the cute one”).

The producer of Sharknado is the person we can all blame/thank for the upcoming Dead 7. The movie will be a futuristic western, with zombies! It will star Carter as the hero of the day, as well as his fellow Backstreet Boys A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough and N’SYNC-er Joey Fatone. Because what won’t Joey Fatone do, amiright?

Carter is intending to reach out to The New Kids on the Block in hopes of getting Jordan Knight to sign on and there is no word on whether or not any other members of N’SYNC will accept his invitation.

So…that’s a thing we can look forward to.

Stephen Amell Reveals that Casey Jones Will Have a New Origin Story in ‘TMNT 2’

Stephen Amell as Casey-Jones

As if the Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies didn’t have enough fans angry at them, Stephen Amell announced in an interview that there will be another change to the series.

Casey Jones, fan favorite from the comics, cartoons, and late 80’s/early 90’s films will not have the same origin story he had in the comics. Amell attributes that to this movie introducing him at a different point in his life and development. He says Jones is a normal, law abiding man with a job, who loves hockey, and after being laughed off by law enforcement, he decides to take things into his own hands.

Hopefully the change won’t make audiences too angry, although it seems people are just looking for reasons to hate these movies. Michael Bay is the worst, but if you love TMNT it’s still best to give them a chance right?

Peter Parker Would Have Resurrected Characters in The Amazing Spider-Man 3?!

maxresdefault

Weird as it may sound, Sony was bouncing around the idea that Peter Parker would use a formula to bring his loved ones back to life. In an interview with IGN, Denis Leary revealed that he was going to reprise his role of Captain George Stacy in a third movie. “There was this idea at one point that Spider-Man would be able to take this formula and regenerate the people in his life that had died,” explained Leary.

Thankfully, they didn’t choose to go that route as it would have opened a whole other can of worms. While Gwen Stacy was brought back with the Carnage symbiote in the Ultimate Comics, a resurrection in the third movie would have just been bizarre. Not to mention it would invalidate one of Parker’s major character developments as if he could bring back Captain George Stacey, why not bring back his uncle and everyone else he’s ever lost. It’s a good thing they left that box unopened as much as Leary wanted to be back on set with Marc Webb.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Gives Us an Earth Ending First Look

FOX Studios must have had a brilliant plan up there sleeves all along for marketing X-Men: Apocalypse. At San Diego Comic Con, they released the first red band trailer to extremely excited audiences and the whole thing really amped up the buzz around the film. Alas, FOX says that footage will remain for SDCC audiences only, so unless you saw the pirated footage that was leaked on the internet (which you shouldn’t have, because that’s stealing, but if you did OH MY GOD THAT WAS AWESOME RIGHT?! Not that I’ve seen it or anything…) you may be out of luck.

However, FOX teamed up with Entertainment Weekly to give non-SDCC attending audiences a glimpse of the film to hopefully get them just as pumped. The new issue of EW will hit news stands on July 24, 2015 and will feature a full-length introduction to the film and several characters and their costumes. Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Apocalypse himself (Oscar Isaac) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) grace the cover, and on the inside spread we get glimpses of Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Professor X (James McAvoy), Moira McTaggert (Rose Byrne), Beast (Nick Hoult) as well as first looks at new comer mutants Jubilee (Lana Condor), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), amd Jean Grey (Sophie Turner).

You can look at the first photos here, and be sure to pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly when it comes out next week.

New Photos Reveal a Beaten Up Iron Man from ‘Civil War’

So. Epic. Image via Marvel Studios.
So. Epic.

Let’s face it – Captain America: Civil War is currently going down in history as one of the most spoiler-ed movie in ever. Not only will it closely follow one of the biggest Marvel Comics storylines of all times, but people are fiends about leaking any and everything they can find out about the film. Personally, I prefer to stay spoiler free… I know how dumb that sounds considering what I’m currently writing, but hey, it’s my job right?

Photos surfaced on Twitter today of a very beaten up Robert Downey Jr. posing with a food truck proprietor, indicating that at one point in the film he’ll most likely get his ass kicked. Probably by Cap, and he most likely had it coming.

Twitter

If you are unfamiliar with the Civil War storyline, the whole thing is available in trade paperback. It is one of Marvel’s best and it leads into one of the most iconic deaths in comic book history. I won’t say who, just in case any of my beloved readers happen to be cave dwellers who don’t know what I’m talking about. Either way, if you want to know more, go to your local comic book store and pick up the trade (and it’s accompanying spin-offs) – you’ll thank me later.

Note: I’d like to give a big shout out to the Blaxican Food Truck who shared this picture. If you see them on the streets, give their food a try and if you’re on Twitter, go ahead and give them a follow.
