Yesterday in the Nerd Verse… Mar. 23rd, 2015

Oh holy hell, in super amazing news it was confirmed today that the Russo Brothers will indeed be directing Avengers Infinity Wars 1 &2. I couldn’t be more excited about this. If you don’t know them, you should because they are the geniuses that brought us Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is arguably the best Marvel movie ever. They will also be directing Captain America: Civil War which gives me butterflies in my tummy just to talk about. Nerds, this is a big win for us. Source: Badass Digest

It looks like Marvel will be doing a Man in the High Castle thing with a new Secret Wars Realm series called Hail Hydra. In the series, penned by Rick Remender, Hydra will be the standard of US Patriotism and all the known heroes and villains will have been raised on its doctrines. It was announced that Joe Kelly’s freaking awesome graphic novel I Kill Giants will be made into a movie. Oscar winner Anders Walter will direct, and Chris Columbus will produce. I Kill Giants is a celebrated graphic novel and if you haven’t read it I recommend picking it up. This will almost undoubtedly be an amazing movie. Source: ComicBook.com

So Mallrats 2 will be a thing as we all found out last week, and today Kevin Smith announced that Shannen Doherty will be back as Rene. I guess there’s still at least one person out there still willing to work with her. For now at least.

Many of you probably saw on Facebook that some awesome mom created Arrow themed birthday invitations for her daughter’s Arrow themed birthday party. Of course Stephen Amell got wind of it. Because he is the freaking coolest guy ever, he recorded a special message for the little girl to be played at her party. How freaking sweet is that? Seriously, how can you not love this guy? J-Law, or Jennifer Lawrence as I like to call her, has announced that X-Men: Apocalypse will be her last film in the series. She’s got bigger and better things to move on to I guess, or whatever. I’m not sure how this series is supposed to keep going after the third installment anyway, so there is a chance she’s jumping ship at the right time before Brett Ratner tries to get his mitts on it again. “Screw you literature!” says Game of Thrones executive producer David Benioff, confirming that the TV show will eventually spoil the ending of the books for readers. Benioff said that the books and the show are headed in the same direction and even though some things will be different a spoiled ending is kind of inevitable. Hopefully book fans won’t be too mad.

For those of you anxiously awaiting the release of Batman: Arkham Knight I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is, the release date has been pushed back. The good news is it’s only been pushed from June 2, 2015 to June 23, 2015. The even better news is to make up for it Rocksteady has released 7 minutes of gameplay footage to blow your mind and make you drool. Source: Batman News

Holy crap it seems my wildest dreams may actually come true and The X-Files might actually be returning to TV. With Gillian Anderson and David FREAKING Duchovny. Right now Fox Studios is looking at a short order, which means two seasons with no more than ten episodes. If it works for their schedules, both Anderson and Duchovny have shown strong interest in coming back to the show. Seriously, this is like the biggest thing ever for me. Ruth Negga, who plays the Raina in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has been cast as Tulip in the Seth Rogan TV adaptation of Preacher. Tulip is Jesse Cutter’s (the Preacher’s) love interest. I’m getting more and more excited for the show. Source: Deadline

Finally, somebody we actually want throwing their hat into the super-hero role game has spoken. Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory‘s Sheldon Cooper) said off-handedly that he would like to play The Riddler. He says that he would “be dope” as Edward Nigma. Good news! Japan is still weirder than us! Now you get your chick sexing on thanks to this amazing new Burger King burger-scented perfume. The Walking Dead‘s executive producer isn’t just using Kickstarter to fund a new documentary about Willa Mankiller, the first woman to be elected President of the Cherokee Nation; she is also using the star-power of her TWD cast to field goodies from the show and cast. There’s been a lot of underlining issues coming to light with the cancellation of a Batgirl #41 variant from Rafael Albuquerque, which pays homage to The Killing Joke. Best Network Game/DLC

WINNER – inFamous: First Light

The first wave of Playstation 4 games were, by and large, underwhelming. There was a bright spot, though, and that was the PS exclusive inFamous: Second Son. Controlling several different powers was awesome, but my favorite was Neon. I felt like the Flash zooming through the city, beating up bad guys. Imagine my delight when the DLC First Light was made available. This wasn’t just a new level; it was it’s own playable game. First Light explores the origin of Fetch, the fiery young woman that helps Delsin defeat the DUP (bad guys) in Second Son. It won’t drastically change Second Son, but it is definitely worthy of your time, especially if you are looking for a game with badass female character – an option lacking in the gaming world. – Sherif

Second Place – TMNT: Out of the Shadows

TMNT Out of the Shadows Best of 2014 Video Games DLC Runner Up

Some of my fondest memories from the arcade as a kid were playing the stupid (only because I kept losing) TMNT side-scrolling game, so any time that a similar concept comes up, I am right there to throw my money at it like a shuriken. Technically, this game was released in 2013, but the PlayStation version didn’t come out til March of this year. The game definitely contains some technical short-comings, one that can’t be overlooked, but if the Turtle Power within you is strong enough, you can enjoy this game for hours. – Sherif

Third Place – Watch Dogs: Bad Blood

Watchdogs Bad Blood Best of 2014 Video Games DLC Runner Up 2

I put in quite a few hours with Watch Dogs; I loved the way that you could dive into any random stranger’s life and find out their darkest secrets. So when I finally got the platinum trophy, I was a little bothered that there was nothing really left to do. That is, until Bad Blood came out. This doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but instead gives you just enough high to keep you invading lives and blowing stuff up, all from the comfort of your own phone. – Sherif

RUNNER UP – Strider

Strider Best of 2014 Video Games DLC Runner Up 4

If you have played the original on PS1, then you have no excuse not to get this. It is a remake of original with upgraded graphics and enhanced gameplay. Anyone with a PS4 had no excuse not to play this because it was free to PS Plus subscribers. This game is worth it just to check out the redesigned Ouroboros boss fight. If you haven’t played this ever, then I can’t recommend it enough, especially for 15 bucks. – Robert

PixelJunk Shooter Best of 2014 Video Games DLC Runner Up 3

Creativity like this should be rewarded more often. This is yet another game that was free to Playstation Plus owners, and totally worth your time. This game can even be played with two people and involves saving people on an alien planet and solving puzzles. I highly suggest everyone give this game a shot. – Robert
