This Week’s Comics – June 10th, 2015

This Week’s Comics is the pull list of Comic Books recommended by Hush Comics, with notes and suggestions by co-owner, Sherif Elkhatib.

Recommendations:

Batman #41: The first week of DC “YOU” books ended up being pretty awesome, actually, so there’s absolutely no reason not to believe that Batman won’t continue with the trend. After Endgame wrapped Bruce Wayne’s chapter up in a sad little bow, this is a PERFECT jumping on point for new readers. Batman isn’t even going to be Bruce Wayne. I have, quite frankly, no idea what the hell to expect other than a robotic Batsuit and another great story by the best tag-team in comic books in Scott Snyder (WytchesAmerican Vampire) and Greg Capullo (Spawn).

1602 Witch Hunter Angela #1: Another one of Marvel’s “re-launched” past series, the Marvel 1602 series was a renaissance take on the heroes. In this new book, Angela and Searh are witch hunters for King James. It seems like a great fit for the Asgardian Assassin. I hope it’s not too full of exposition, but as long as there  is humor and action, there’s potential for this to be an enjoyable experience.

The Outlaws break up: For a loooong while there, the Red Hood & the Outlaws book was floundering – as was most of the rest of DC’s lineup. Arsenal was a total toolbag and Starfire was reduced to a sexual object. It was horrible; I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. Seems like their break-up is just the revitalization they all needed, because this new Starfire book seems to be just the breath of fresh air it needed. Even though I don’t care for Harley Quinn, I can’t deny the impact that Palmiottti/Connor had on it’s popularity – hopefully, the same will happen for the new Starfire book. Red Hood/Arsenal? Not so much. It’s laid out almost like a Nicktoon… but I’m still more willing to give it a chance than I was with Red Hood & the Outlaws.
